CHANGE YOUR MINDSET, CHANGE YOUR LIFE
A practical programme for performers
Would you like to conquer nerves, actively enjoy auditions and feel more at ease? Perhaps you’d like to rid yourself of imposter syndrome, gain peace of mind and feel confident of your worth?
In this practical programme, you’ll be guided through simple techniques and discover how to use your imagination to change your mindset, let go of what’s holding you back and look forward to a more positive future. It can be run as an individual programme or as a group workshop. Each programme is adapted to the specific group or individual.
We’ll start with a gentle warm-up and have a chat about the challenges being faced before moving onto some guided relaxation. We will then align each topic or challenge with N.L.P. or hypnosis techniques. You’ll leave with lots of practical techniques to use at home. Topics include:
Audition Nerves
Auditions are a chance to show how great you are! You chose performing for a reason, so learn to treat every audition as an opportunity to perform, and stop getting in your own way.
Feeling Confident
Imagine a more confident version of you. That doesn’t mean showy, overbearing or loud, it means knowing your worth, being authentic and trusting in yourself to deliver.
Learn how to dial up your confidence when you need it and switch to relax mode at will.
The “Gatekeepers”
Established industry professionals might seem like a barrier - keeping you from getting where you want to be. But Agents, Casting Directors, Producers and Directors are not stumbling blocks, they are stepping stones. They will become some of the most meaningful collaborative relationships you make. They are rooting for you, so learn to root for yourself! Enter the room feeling confident in your value and you’ll come across as a safe pair of hands.
Letting Go and Handling Rejection
You’ve had the audition or the meeting: now let it go. They are part of your job and a chance to show you’re right for this role at this time, they’re not a test of your personhood.
If there’s something to improve on for next time, give yourself some grace. This programme will help you release negative thinking and move on.
Imposter Syndrome and Fear of Success
Suddenly you’ve been cast in the role of your dreams. You’re in the same production as a well-established name, maybe even an international star or two, and of course, that is thrilling. It’s what you’ve dreamt of, right? So why does that little voice start whispering: “hmm, maybe you’re not good enough”?
Well, that’s not true or you wouldn’t have been cast.
It’s no secret that many performers fear failure, but it’s surprisingly common to fear success, often subconsciously. Of course, a big career leap can seem scary and your subconscious mind is trying to protect you, but at a huge cost - by keeping you small.
Find out how to quieten that negative inner voice, be kinder to yourself and break free of whatever’s holding you back.
Performance Anxiety
Have you ever had that feeling, just before you go on stage, that you wanted to run away and hide? But you didn’t, did you? You got through it and you went on? Performers are some of the bravest people around.
Many performers believe that nerves give their performance an edge. But nerves can get out of hand and suck the joy out of performing. Sometimes, they get so out of control, they become completely debilitating. The brain starts seeing performing as a threat; it can’t differentiate between going on stage and jumping off a cliff!
So, what if it’s not actually the nerves performers need but the energy? Learn to convert that nervous energy into something useful and more comfortable.
If you’ve had a negative experience in the past, you might be worried that something is going to go wrong in the future: what if you or a fellow performer make a mistake or something technical goes wrong? That’s something you ultimately have no control over, but you can learn to stay calm, focused and in the moment, even when the unexpected happens.
Post-performance blues
When you hear “that’s a wrap”, when a tour or run comes to an end, it can be a double-edged sword. Yes, there’s the jubilation of a job well done, particularly if you’ve had a wonderfully bonding experience and you’re probably ready for a rest. After all, there’s a unique camaraderie about being part of creative ensemble, so when a project comes to an end, it can be very hard to let go of. In fact, it can feel a lot like grief.
N.L.P. and hypnosis can help to build resilience and promote long-term positive thinking. Using these techniques, you will be able to let go a little more easily and move forward with renewed optimism: poised and ready to take on the next challenge.
Putting it all together
At the end of the Performers’ Programme, we’ll tie everything together. Don’t be surprised by how much change you start to notice already.
If you attend with an open mind and are willing to follow my instructions, you’ll finish this programme feeling more relaxed, confident and positive about yourself and your future.
