Hypnotherapy to Stop Smoking
Would you like to stop smoking or vaping? Have you tried on your own but not succeeded? Did you know hypnotherapy could help?
Stopping smoking with hypnotherapy is incredibly successful and surprisingly quick. It usually only takes one or two sessions to stop smoking for good.
Every unwanted habit has a positive intent. Smoking is often used as a stress reliever. It appears to be serving a purpose: helping alleviate stress, albeit with serious long term health consequences. In fact, the stress that has people reaching for the cigarettes, may actually be the stress of nicotine withdrawal, not actual life stress. But because smoking may make us feel better in the short term, we have linked the two in our minds.
Even though we know how bad smoking is for us, it may take a series of events to give us the motivation to quit - someone we know being diagnosed with a smoking related disease, waking up in the night coughing, gasping for breath when running for a bus, the constant smell of cigarettes on our clothes or hair: any number of factors combined together can make us feel the pressure to stop. The ironic thing is, the stress of these events can have us reaching for the cigarettes! But smoking is a habit and habits can be changed. After all, we are not born craving a cigarette.
Many people worry that if they give up smoking they’ll lose something. They see cigarettes almost as a friend. They like the camaraderie of hanging out with other smokers. They can’t imagine a morning coffee or a weekend drink without a smoke. Others worry that they’ll simply rely on new, unhelpful habits to fill the gap, such as eating or drinking more. With hypnotherapy we can find new ways to alleviate stress, boredom or anxiety so that smoking is taken out of the equation. We can get to a place of being ready to stop without the stress.
We’ll start with getting a picture of how you “do” smoking. Not so much the why, but the how. When do you smoke? When you’re bored, tired, stressed, frustrated, anxious, hungry? How does smoking make you feel? And then we’ll work on ways of handling those situations and attending to those needs without feeling the need to smoke.
At the same time, we can bring about a sense of revulsion at the idea of a cigarette, so that even if temptation should arise, the urge to smoke is not there. And then we can imagine a more positive, smoke-free future. Imagine being six months from now, looking back at yourself and how far you’ve come: a non-smoker.
You’ll be guided through this every step of the way and you’ll be fully in control of the process.
